Press Coverage:

Over the past month there has been positive reporting in several of the local newspapers concerning activities at Cornerstone. The culmination of these was the photo showing the Dandenong lions Club presenting food at one of our Friday lunches. In the same issue there was an article on Anthony Byrne's speech in Federal Parliament on the budget in which he quoted from the ediitorial from our last newsletter. Following press coverage we find that more and more people respond to the needs of Cornerstone with assistance in kind or financial help.

Repairs to Op Shop Roof:
At the last Board meeting Jim Perez, Manager of the Op Shop whimsically reported that there was now a waterfall in the Op Shop. High winds had lifted the tiles and the recent rains had poured in. After a couple of weeks of coping with the problem and the onset of heavy winter rains the Board has now employed a tiler to fix the section of the roof. Costs range between $ 700 - $800 to waterproof the section that is leaking. Such are the joys of an old building!!

Drug Forums:
There have been two drug forums in the past couple of weeks. Paul Briscoe attended the Greater Dandenong meeting while Ps. Max and Alison attended the Casey meeting. The Casey forum presented latest statistics on Drugs in the district with alcohol creating the most problems. Police activity have reduced the sale of Hard drugs in the district. Alcohol remains the number one killer across the community.

Paul's Programs:
The Reading and writing program and the Making ends meet programs will be run later in the year as people indicate the need for these two activities. See Paul Briscoe if you are interested in either of these programs. Centerlink Dandenong is to donate a fax machine to Cornerstone. and it will be presented to Cornerstone during the morning drop in on Wednesday 10th.

Pack & Send Dandenong:
This local company situated in Walker St has agreed to sponsor activities at Cornerstone in 2002. The regular monthly donation will be used for crisis food parcels. Pastor Max and Alison will attend their 4th Birthday Party where the franchise owner will announce the sponsorship to the press.

Driver Awareness Seminars:
This organisation is using the Drop in for special meetings. These are closed meetings for people required to undertake the program.

Boarding House Owner's Meeting:
This meeting will be held later in the month and is being organised by Springvale CAB.

During the school holidays children are quite welcome at Cornerstone but must be accompanied by a parent and are under their direct reponsibility. Children are not to be left at Cornerstone without parental supervision.

June Encounter:
Over 60 people shared a meal and the activities at Cornerstone. A three course meal was enjoyed by all and it was a comedy night with videos, songs and games. ERHMA bus was available to collect and return people and we thank Ian Woods for organising and driving the bus. Items were presented by Ian Woods, Phillip, Pastor David, Barb Siddall , Pastor Max and Alison. It was a great night for the Cornerstone family.
