November Newsletter 2002

November has been an eventful month so far at Cornerstone. Programs have continued to be well attended. The luncheon following the morning Drop in on Wednesday and Friday continue to attract large numbers. Numbers at the other programs have remained consistent despite the introduction of daylight saving.

The Performersı Club:
This program, after many years an integral part of Tuesday Night in Dandenong, has been disbanded. Auspiced by Eastern Region Mental Health Association a replacement program will be discussed in the New Year.

Driver Awareness Group:
This group has used the Drop in throughout the year and the Board has approved them using the building again in 2003.

Taxation Volunteer Group:
A part of the Tax Office this group held their presentation day for volunteers at Cornerstone recently.

Mission Expo:
At the instigation of a local Mission Committee at Winepress AOG Cornerstone participated in a day where about thirty local and overseas Missions displayed their activities. Each group was given a 15 minute timeslot to explain the work of their group. This was a very interesting learning experience. It was unfortunate that despite a great deal of local advertising through the churches the day, overall, was poorly attended.

Board meeting:
The November Meeting of the Board was able to distribute funds to assist groups here and overseas. These include a radio program and orphanage in the Philippines, assisting children in Kenya and other poverty ravaged countries as well as several local groups.

Visey Board Christmas Lunch.
Again, this year the Visey Centre in Dandenong will be having a Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day. Volunteers are required on the day and offers of assistance should be made directly to the Visey Centre. People wishing to partake in the lunch need to book their place now!!

November Encounter:
This was a great success. Over 60 people participated in the Sunday Night meal and festivities. There was a wealth of entertainment showing that many of our volunteers have hidden talents. A segment with old time Sunday School action choruses was hilarious. It was a good night for the Cornerstone family culminating in a comedy video. The meal was cooked by members of the Springvale Lions Club and we thank them for their support.

Dandenong CAB:
Pastor Max has been nominated for the Board of Management of Dandenong Community Advice Bureau.

The Dove:
The Dove under the leadership of Pastor Charlie and Christine Begg and his team of willing helpers continues to be popular on a Tuesday. Although not part of Cornerstone we rejoice with them in their endeavours and the success of their Drop In.

Candidates Meeting:
Several of the Board Members attended this meeting organised by the Christian Lobby in Canberra. State Candidates in the City of Casey were present to answer questions on their policies put to them by the representatives of the churches in the Casey area. It was a well conducted and worthwhile meeting. The Casey City offices were packed.

Drug Action report:
Paul Briscoe represents Cornerstone on the Dandenong Drug Action Committee. There are three Drug Action Committees in the City of Greater Dandenong....Dandenong, Springvale and Noble Park. A special reporting back public meeting was held in Springvale and Paul Briscoe and Board Member, Helen McFarland represented Cornerstone.

End of year dates:
Rapidly the year is coming to an end. Cornerstone will close for a time of relaxation for the many volunteers who give so unreservedly of their time and talents throughout the year. This will enable them to return full of enthusiasm at the beginning of February 2003.
