October Newsletter 2005
Editorial:
Faced with the obscenity of the exploitation of the people in the temple, Jesus overturned the tables of the moneychangers. Faced with
the neglect of the mentally ill, the continued neglect of the poor, lack of public housing, rampart exploitation by the multinationals of
the workers and their total dominance of the political agenda, the neglect of our indigenous people, the plight of the poor and the
homeless, surely it is time for the money changers tables to be overturned.
When we look at billions in surplus in the federal government coffers, surpluses in state government budgets, millions spent on an IR
publicity campaign and the war in Iraq it is little wonder that people ask why can't we use or resources to feed the poor, house the homeless,
mend the hospital system, provide adequate care for the mentally ill and the proper care of our indigenous people in the area of health and
general well being.
Thousands of unpaid volunteers struggle to meet the needs of these people giving of their time and money to assist those in their circle
of care. Is it little wonder that many of us deplore the insensitivy of politicians who ignore the real needs of our nation to support their
tired ideologies.
Before the economy and the whole nation spirals out of control in all the areas of needs continually identified in our nation it is time to
overturn the tables of the moneychangers and begin to meet the real needs of the Australian people.
