Editorial:
img_fireworkAlison and I were lucky enough to be given seats to the opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games. During the Opening I took this photo of the rollerbladers with the fireworks strapped to their bodies. In the darkened arena it was truly awesome.

The Games clearly demonstrated how, we, as a community, can come together across a wide variety of cultures, religions, ethnic and indigenous backgrounds working for the common good. Melbourne overall is a great place to live.

Dame Edna Everidge at the closing said in her song:
"Let's drink a toast to Melbourne
    The city of the future.
    The envy of the world.
    As the world gets scarier
    It's a pretty decent area.
    Melbourne
    The envy of the world"
However, now as the euphoria of the Games fades we are back to the reality of the daily life in our city. Let us take all the positives and use them to ensure that those who are less fortunate have more than Bread and Circus to entertain and sustain them. It requires had work to make Melbourne the envy of the world and money and extravaganza will not do it. It is when our concern and compassion for the lost and disenfranchised in our society see funding like we have seen released in the past few months directed to the areas of mental health, affordable housing, combating loneliness, rehabilitating the addict, facing the issues surrounding our aboriginal communities, and we begin to solve these problems then we can be called as a city: Melbourne the envy of the world.

Finally, when we are lit up like the individuals in the photo and are literally burning with zeal to make things happen then we will begin to put sufficient pressure on Federal and State Governments to make the necessary changes to make us a really compassionate nation.

Jesus said: Love your neighbour as yourself.
Have a powerful and active month to a hurting world.
